Would I say I recommend it to acknowledge the effort and thought that clearly went into it? Yes, very much so. While I might not remember it in years to come, it was worth 40 minutes of my time. I got this very inexpensively on sale, perhaps £0.70 or so and I do like to try things like this. This is not a bad thing and the authour clearly has some skills there is a clear environmental message that runs through Islands, some a little flat but some very good (the car garage one especially I found interesting). Islands: Non-Places feels very much like the authour is honing their craft on some rather abstract ideas, very much like a tech demo. You much click around to "activate" something, usually it's obvious but sometimes you just wave your mouse around clicking on things.Īs a game, I wasn't impressed and found it a little bit hard to get through, especially with so much else waiting in my Steam library, but I did think throughout that it would work better as a demo (as in demo scene, or whatever it is called since the 90's when I last looked), the "game" aspect did grate after a while but I did see it through to the end. There are ten or so "scenes" which, on a gameplay level, operate a bit like hidden object games. Islands: Non-Places makes for an odd game, but overall an interesting experience.

As you open the door, you can hear birds chirping and catch a glimpse of a birdcage in the cabin. You click at the neon sign and then bus arrives. Boring game, but a clever tnstallation art with a dozen of ultra-short abstract stories to tell that don't immediatelly signpost their end goal until the very end and almost all of the times the surprise will bring smile upon your face.
